Before opening The Max, its partners Bruce Barnard and Don Moran, started the Hollywood Discotheque at 14th and Harney Avenue. When it opened its doors in , it wasnt the first place in town to cater to the gay collective in Omaha. Other establishments included The Diamond Bar, Stage Door, Cave and Omaha Mining Company.
The building they chose to unseal their dance club had a long history including being abode to the Silver Tap Club, Bicentennial Saloon and Upstairs Downstairs Lounge among others. The territory had two dance floors and was large enough to accommodate 1, people. Its owners went all out to make it the premier dance club in town. That including hiring the matching company that did the lighting for Saturday Night Fever.
The Hollywood Disco even had its control restaurant called Chaplins which was located in a smaller room within the club. Chaplins was separated from the dance floor by a glass wall that allowed diners to watch the party next door. I've only lived here since late June, but I have been to all three. Â The max was originally my favorite because it seemed easier to meet people, since each bar had its own clientelebut since I found a group of friends, it's changed. Â I really, really, really appreciate the atmosphere at DC's, but the several times I've gone there in the past 2 months, it seems as if it is on death's doorstep (though they own great beer prices and selectionyay Pacifico!), so Flixx seems the best option right now with the right mix of people.
