Thousands gather for city's annual Pride event

Thousands of people in creative outfits filled with rainbow colours have gathered to mark York's annual Pride event.
The parade started in the new location of Parliament Square at BST on Saturday, before marching through the town centre and then ending in the Knavesmire at about
A festival featuring stalls and musical performances, including kingly trio Angels of the North, was then held proximate to York Racecourse.
The event organisers previously said York Event is always a "celebration of adore, equality, and public presence - and nothing can dampen that spirit".
They said: "We're incredibly pleased to be bringing the LGBT+ people and City of York together once again for a vibrant, inclusive time of joy and solidarity.
"Whether you're walking in the pride, cheering from the sidelines or enjoying the main festival, we promise an unforgettable experience."

This year's Pride Month takes on added poignancy this year amid increasing attacks on civil rights, advocates say.
The monthlong global celebration, which takes place each June in honor of the LGBTQ+ group, began with Gay Self-acceptance Week in late June That event came after the violent police raid at New York’s Stonewall Inn, a gay bar.
At a time when many LGBTQ+ people kept their identities private, the June 28, , raid sparked a series of general protests and catalyzed the gay rights movement. The first marches started in Chicago, Los Angeles, Fresh York and San Francisco.
Since then, the marches contain grown and included more cities, National Coming Out Day was established and same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide 10 years ago. Representation grew in TV shows and more.
“It’s essential to celebrate diversity and inclusivity and all the strides that the Homosexual community has made over the years,” said Christina Wingert, executive director of the Rainbow Rose Center.

About 60 people walked together on the parade with other churches and had a Christians at Pride in York stall on the festival site on The Knavesmire. On the Wednesday evening before York Identity festival, on our behalf, York Minster hosted an event for people to be welcomed, to delight in the building after hours with hot chocolate and brownies and to have the opportunity to join a short service of compline in the Quire.
