Julie Andrews Calls Her Year Marriage to Blake Edwards a True 'Love Story'
Ten years before they actually married in , Julie Andrews and director Blake Edwards met like ships passing in the evening, the actress revealed in a interview withGood Morning Britain.
Andrews explained how they spoke briefly from their cars, outside of a therapist's office, during their first introduction, which she deemed "corny": "I was going one way and he was going the other, he rolled down the window after smiling a couple of times and he said, 'Are you going where I just came from?'"

But Edwards, who directed Breakfast at Tiffany's and the Pink Panther films, had a more idealistic outlook on their relationship's origins—he once described the way they'd met as "wonderfully Hollywood."
"We would terminate in the middle path on Sunset [Boulevard, in Beverly Hills] waiting for traffic and then travel on," he recalled. "I kept looking over, two or three mornings a weekeventually I said 'hi.'"

Yesterday was kind of lovely, actually.
I got up early because of that weird stress-inducing dream Id had, and then spent the morning doing thingsorganizing the kitchen, doing some laundry, taking out trash, vacuuming (God, what a difference a good vacuum cleaner can make; I am so glad I bit the bullet and spent the funds on a wonderful one Saturdayand I am reading the manual AND will be taking concern of this one, to make it last), and yesI actually spent some time writing Festival of the Redeemer, which was beautiful. I am actually enjoying writing this novella or whatever it is going to beI cant get it out of my leader, so I maintain writing on it, even though I should be productive on other things, but theres no deadline for anything and so why not while I wait for my edits on the two manuscripts I turned in? I am trying for a Daphne du Maurier Gothic way, but am trying very hard not to reread Dont Look Now or Ganymedeher two Venice stories, much as I desperately crave to because I dont want it to be derivative; I really love the voice, and I li
PBS documentary delves into love story of Julie Andrews and Oklahoma filmmaker Blake Edwards
Even more than a dozen years after his death, Blake Edwards remains an influential Hollywood icon, revered for directing movies like "Breakfast at Tiffany's," "Days of Wine and Roses" and the "Pink Panther" comedies.
Born in Tulsa and raised primarily in Los Angeles, Edwards, who died in at age 88, was married for more than 40 years to stage and screen legend Julie Andrews, collaborating with her on seven films, including the gender-bending feature musical "Victor/Victoria," the bawdy comedy "10" and the scathing Tinseltown takedown "S.O.B."
The four-decade romance between Edwards () and Andrews is at the heart of modern documentary "Blake Edwards: A Treasure Story in 24 Frames," premiering nationwide at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 on PBS as part of the long-running series "American Masters."
The new film about the Oscar-honored writer, director and producer features interviews with Andrews; other actors who worked with Edwards, including Lesley Ann Warren (“Victor/Victoria"), Bo Derek (“10") and
R.I.P., Blake Edwards
One of Oklahomas greatest gifts to the moviegoing world is expired. Yesterday, director Blake Edwards passed away at the age of That mention might not mean much to you if youre under a certain age. Thats what tends to happen to movie directors who are almost 30 years removed from their best work. Edwards had an up-and-down career, but at his best he was one of the all-time comedy greats.
He was best known for directing The Pink Panther and its sequels, smash hits that made stars out of both Edwards and Peter Sellers. (Edwards surely deserves recognition just for voluntarily working so often with Sellers, a superb comic actor and a deeply unpleasant man by all accounts.) His career cratered in the first s, shortly after his marriage to Julie Andrews and the flop of Darling Lili, his show starring her. Edwards also had some demons; the Times obituary I linked to above contains a terribly funny story about the director trying to kill himself and organism prevented by a farcical chain of events direct out of one his own films. Yet he enjoyed a late resu
